Frequently Asked Questions

All HARF dogs need to be returned to the Center if they are not a good fit within 30 days.  We know that each animal is an individual, so not every home is right for each dog and every dog in not right for every home.  We are happy to work with you to find the right fit for everyone involved. Dogs kept past 30 days are considered “Owner Surrenders” and HARF will work hard to try and take the dog back, but only if a foster can be found to house the dog while awaiting its next adoption.
Each and every animal that comes to the Center has had a medical review and work up.  We cannot insure the health of all animals, but follow all standard practices to ensure that all animals are in a healthy condition at adoption.
The age of each dog/puppy (unless the date of birth is known) is determined based on the growth pattern and condition of the teeth.
Dogs are such flexible creatures and can easily adapt to a new name.  It typically takes a week or two to adjust to a new name with consistent use and praise.
We recommend that you feed your pet a good quality grain-free dog food.  There are many options at your local pet store and Costco (Nature’s Domain).

Yes!  We offer each adopter the option to foster-to-adopt prior to making a permanent commitment.  You can take up to a week with your potential new pet to make sure that the pet is a good fit with your family and that they get along with any other four-legged family members.

Please note:  we do not allow dogs under the age of four months to be fostered prior to adoption.  We view these young pups like babies and believe they should remain in the most familiar and stable environment possible prior to finding their forever home.
